Dallas Brings Back Sidekicks Legends Woodberry and Couch to Join Coaching Staff

by Caitlin Reilly

Allen, Texas (September 7, 2023) - Dallas Sidekicks Head Coach Ed Puskarich announces the addition of Sidekicks Legends Terry Woodberry and Kiley Couch to the coaching staff. This upcoming season will mark Couch’s and Woodberry’s first season with the Sidekicks from a coaching point of view.

Woodberry started his indoor playing career in 1987 with the Oklahoma City Warriors in the Southwest Indoor Soccer League and was the third leading scorer with the club. In 1988, Woodberry was drafted by the Dallas Sidekicks in the fourth round of the 1988 Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL). He spent three seasons with the Sidekicks and scored 29 goals and had 6 assists during his three-year stint.

In the 1991-92 season, Woodberry moved to play with the San Diego Sockers leading them to a MISL championship against the Dallas Sidekicks with 21 goals and 10 assists during the regular season. After their championship, the MISL folded, and Woodberry moved to play for the Wichita Wings in the National Professional Soccer League. Woodberry rejoined the Sidekicks in the Continental Indoor Soccer League (CISL) in 1996. However, he was only there for a season since he was drafted in the Major League Soccer Inaugural Player Draft with the Kansas City Wiz.

In 1999, Woodberry rejoined the Sidekicks again and played for three more seasons. In 2001, Woodberry added another championship title but now playing for the Dallas Sidekicks. He retired from his playing career after his championship win.

Like Woodberry, Couch had a similar career story. In 1997, Couch was drafted by Portland Pride in the fifth round of the CISL. After that, Couch bounced around in leagues and cities such as Portland, Cleveland, and Houston. During his time with the Cleveland Force in the 2002-2003 Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) season, Couch scored 11 goals and had 11 assists despite being a defender.

On August 26, 2003, Couch signed a contract with the Dallas Sidekicks and made his debut with the club on October 4, 2003. On his debut with the Sidekicks, Couch scored two goals and had one assist including the game-winner against the La Furia de Monterrey. In 2004, the Sidekicks folded, and Couch retired for eight years.

When the Sidekicks came back in 2012, Couch un-retired and started his second stint with the club. Couch played for four more seasons with the Sidekicks and played one season with the Ontario Fury. He played one last season with the Sidekicks before he retired in the 2016-2017 MASL season. Overall, Couch played in over 224 games throughout his career and scored 51 goals, 65 assists, and blocked 377 shots.

When asked about his thoughts on his newly formed coaching staff, Head Coach Ed Puskarich said, “I think we have the best coaching staff in the league now. They are both Sidekicks Legends that will bring both the attacking and defending perspectives to the team.”
