by Bob Heckel

Dallas Sidekicks Head Coach and General Manager Simon Bozas announced today that the team has re-signed goalie Juan Gamboa for the 2016-17 Major Arena Soccer League season.

A 2012 UTB graduate with a kinesiology degree, Gamboa’s collegiate soccer success led to tryouts with semi-pro and pro teams. In 2012, Gamboa played for the San Antonio-based La U soccer team that won the world-class Global Beer Champions Cup. The championship match of the tournament was played at Wembley Stadium in London. During and after his college years, he also played semi-professionally for the Bravos and Grandes in the Rio Grande Valley, which led to his stint with the RGV Flash of the PASL in 2012-13. The Flash, which played its home games at Hidalgo’s State Farm Arena, became Hidalgo La Fiera in 2013, and Gamboa took his game to an even higher level this past season with the PASL team as it advanced to the league’s championship match. Gamboa was with the Flash when it reached the PASL semifinals one season earlier.

Gamboa racked up a total of two MASL Player of the Week nods during last seasons. Gamboa, tended the net for the Sidekicks in 15 of the club's regular season matches, recording over 885 minutes and 358 saves while allowing an average of 6.17 goals per game.

The Dallas Sidekicks will be playing its first home game of the 2016-2017 MASL season on Saturday, October 29th.
