FC Dallas Coach Luchi Gonzalez to take First Kick 1/31

(ALLEN, TEXAS: January 22, 2021) – The Dallas Sidekicks have announced that FC Dallas Head Coach Luchi Gonzalez will be the honorary First Kick for their "Youth Soccer Night" match against the San Diego Sockers on Sunday, January 31st at 3:00pm at the Allen Event Center.  He will be joined on the field by FC Dallas Assistant Coaches Peter Lucchin and Mikey Varas.

Luchi Gonzalez was born in Florida but came to Texas to play at SMU where he would have a very successful college career with 48 goals and 32 assists in his four years. As a senior, Luchi won the Hermann Trophy awarded to college soccer's best player. He was taken sixth overall in the 2002 MLS SuperDraft by the San Jose Earthquakes and his pro career to him to Sweden and Peru before returning to the US to sign with the Colorado Rapids.

Luchi was well respected in the youth coaching ranks at FC Dallas which helped earn him being named the seventh coach in franchise history. He helped the FC Dallas academy program with four U.S. Soccer Development Academy national championships and was responsible for helping many "home grown players" move from the academy to professional ranks.

His emphasis on possession and high press is known as "Luchi ball" and is both pleasing on the eyes and effective in getting results on the pitch. "We couldn't think of a better person to represent youth soccer coaching for our Youth Soccer Night than Luchi Gonzalez," said Jesse Llamas, General Manager of the Dallas Sidekicks. "Luchi embodies development of youth players and has the track record to prove it."

FC Dallas has a history of supporting the Dallas Sidekicks with players Brandon Servania and Edwin Cerrillo taking the first kick on January 9th of last year.
