Game Preview: Dallas Sidekicks look to bounce back in visit from the Tacoma Stars

Allen, TX (Nov. 18, 2016)- The Tacoma Stars visit the Allen Event Center for the first time during the 2016-17 season when they challenge the Sidekicks this Friday, November 18th at 7:35 p.m. The Sidekicks enter the match with a 2-3 record, while the Stars are 2-1.

The Dallas Sidekicks offense is averaging 8.0 goals per game, scoring 44% of their power play goals. Forward Cameron Brown leads the MASL with 9 goals and also has 4 assists. Midfielder Jamie Lovegrove has scored 6 goals, assisted 4 goals. Juan Gamboa will be starting in goal tonight, Gamboa has 58 saves, a .716 save percentage.

The Tacoma Stars come into this matchup with a goal differential of +5, which is fourth best in the MASL. The Stars roster features Tacoma’s leading goal scorer, forward Dan Antoniuk, and midfielder Michael Ramos, who notched a pair of game winning goals down the final stretch of last year. The Stars are coached by the reigning MASL Head Coach of the Year Darren Sawatzky and anchored by last season’s MASL Goalkeeper of the Year Danny Waltman.  Danny Waltman has allowed an average of 5.36 goals per match, which is tied for first in the MASL.

Tacoma and Dallas, long-time rivals dates back to their days in the Major Indoor Soccer League in the 1980s. The teams faced off three times last season. The Stars came away victorious in two of the three relatively low-scoring contests, including a 3-2 win on the road at the Allen Event Center. One of the memorable moments between the Dallas Sidekicks and the Tacoma Stars dates back to June 20, 1987, when the Sidekicks defeated the Stars 4-3 in overtime to win their first ever championship. Members of the championship team including Tatu, Kevin "Smudger" Smith, Willie Molano, Mike Uremovich, Krys Sobieski, Doc Lawson, Billy Phillips.

Friday night is also the $2 popcorn, $2 hot dogs, $2 soda or beer. Following Friday’s match, the Sidekicks go on the road were they visit El Paso Coyotes on December 2nd.
