Game Preview: Sidekicks look to even the season series with the San Diego Sockers

by Bob Heckel

Allen, TX (Nov. 9, 2016)- Following the back-to-back losses last weekend, the Dallas Sidekicks (2-2) are looking to bounce back against the San Diego Sockers. The Sidekicks will take on the San Diego Sockers at New York Life field at the Allen Event Center at 7:00 p.m. on November 12th.

During the last matchup on November 5th the Sockers got off to a quick start and continued to hold a comfortable 4-1 lead at half-time. The Sockers’ lead was almost erased in the final 15 minutes of play when Dallas scored two quick 4th quarter goals to tighten the game to 5-3, but it was all San Diego after that when they added three more goals.  Cameron Brown scored a late goal to cut into the Sockers lead 4-8 but it was to little to late. Since the return of the Dallas Sidekicks in 2012, the two teams have only faced six times – their last meeting took place on Saturday, November 5th  when the Sidekicks fell to the Sockers 8-4 in San Diego.

The Sidekicks will look to get their revenge on the Sockers on November 12th in Dallas. The Sidekicks will be looking for their top 2 leading points scores Cameron Brown and Jamie Lovegrove to help keep up with the San Diego Sockers offensive firepower lead by Kraig Chilies. Sidekicks will be back at home on November 18th as they take on the Tacoma Stars.

The traditional rival, specifically from the 80’s and 90’s, will look to frustrate the Sockers highflying offense in San Diego, as they have in the past. The rivalry between the Dallas Sidekicks and the San Diego Sockers dates back to 1984. The two teams created several memorable moments in indoor soccer together, including a stifling but captivating 1-0 playoff game on May 20, 1989, and the end of the longest winning streak in professional sports when the Dallas ended San Diego’s 48-game run on Jan. 27, 2013.
