Juan Gamboa is Ready for Another Year

(ALLEN, TEXAS: May 1, 2020) With two new babies, a career in teaching and a job as a superstar goalkeeper, Juan Gamboa had a lot on his plate last season. Even with all of that, he is more than ready to take on his 5th season with the Dallas Sidekicks.

Before Gamboa joined the organization, he played with La Fiera FC from Hidalgo, Texas where his debut game was against the Sidekicks.

Shortly after, he was offered a spot on Dallas’ team and he took it because he thought it would be a great opportunity for his professional and personal life.

“I’ve just been happy to be able to grow, said Gamboa. “Thanks to the move and thanks to the Sidekicks, I’ve been able to start my family up here and call this area my home now.”

During the past four years, he has become an integral player and a leader for his teammates.

“I just always want to give my best to the team,” said Gamboa. “I feel like I played an important role and did what I had to do as best as I could.”

Because the Sidekicks played against some tough opponents, Gamboa had to spend a lot of time actively protecting the net but he said that he believes the team will have a much better 2020-2021 season.

The team was missing a couple veteran and experienced players for most of the season due to injuries and had many players who were new to indoor soccer.

Now that these players are expected to return for the upcoming season and the new players have a better feel for indoor soccer, Gamboa is feeling optimistic about the team’s future.

“That makes me feel a lot more confident that the overall team is going to be able to perform the way we know we can,” Gamboa said. “I’m excited for this season because we’re finally going to get all our pieces back and show what we’ve been working on."

The one thing on Gamboa’s mind, much like his teammates, is getting to the playoffs.

“Our goal is always to reach playoffs,” said Gamboa. “The last four seasons that I’ve been here, unfortunately, we haven’t been able to make the playoffs so that’s always our number one goal when we start the season.”
