(ALLEN, TEXAS: April 8, 2021) – The Dallas Sidekicks had three players named to the All-MASL Top Newcomers list - defenders David Ortiz and Brian Rodriguez along with forward Scott Doney. This is a great recognition for them as individuals and for the Sidekicks as a team signaling bright futures for each player.

For the 2019/2020 season, midfielder Lipe and forward Felipe De Sousa received rookie recognitions. Lipe ended up making the All-Star team and this year leads the MASL in playoff points-per-game (3.5). De Sousa had a break out 2021 season with 17 goals, second highest in the entire league and finished in the MASL top ten in a number of categories.

Defender David Ortiz appeared in 11 games this season including both playoff games. His defensive presence boosted the Sidekicks back line and he accounted for five blocked shots. His game experience as a mainstay rookie should accelerate his development in the indoor game. Defender Brian Rodriguez saw action in seven regular season games this season including one of the playoff games. Forward Scott Doney is a comanding presence on the field at 6'5". The New Zealand native saw limited game action this season with a number of veteran forwards ahead of him on the depth chart in a position that takes an ample amount of time to adjust to at the professional indoor level.

Again, you just have to go back this season and see the impact second year players can make in the league to get excited about the Sidekicks young roster. A similar leap in performance by these three players will help Dallas raise its level of play on the field.
