ALLEN, TX (March 6, 2022) – The Dallas Sidekicks (9-8) won against the Kansas City Comets (11-5-1) Sunday afternoon in a fantastic display that saw the home side outperform the Comets 8-3.

The Kansas City comets kicked things off in their favor, scoring two goals. After a fantastic play at the end of the first quarter from Sebastian Mendez, Bradlee Baladez scored his 11th goal of the season to put the Sidekicks one goal behind the visiting side.

In the opening minutes from the second quarter, Luiz Morales saw his shot go to the back of the net to level the game 2-2. After conceding a goal from the visiting side, Morales gave a fantastic assist to Erik Macias to score and tie the game once again. The Sidekicks went ahead in the scoreboard for the first time after Luiz Morales scored via a penalty kick with eight minutes left into the quarter. Thanks to Morales’ goals and team efforts, the Sidekicks led at the half 4-3.

Both teams were equally matched in the third quarter of the match– both had multiple shots on goal and were threatening. Until the last four minutes of the third quarter, on his first appearance this season, Anthony Powell scored for the North Texas side to increase their lead by two goals finishing the quarter, 5-3.

The final quarter of the match went much more favorable for the home side. Felipe Silva and Bradlee Baladez saw both of their efforts go to the back of the net to increase the home side’s lead. The Sidekicks led 7-3 with three minutes left into the match. David Ortiz sealed the teams’ win by scoring a goal past the middle of the field into an empty net to make it 8-3.

After a fantastic performance, Luiz Morales shared his thoughts on Sunday’s win:

“We have to be consistent,” said Morales reinforcing his statement from the last game’s defeat. “We were able to do that, and we got the deserved win.”

A player that tirelessly was seeking to get a goal under his name, David Ortiz, also shared his excitement on his goal today and the team’s performance compared to Friday’s defeat:

“It’s ecstatic,” said Ortiz. “I’ve wanted to score at home so bad, it came from a toe-poke, but you gotta do what you can to score. You can tell from the locker room that we were prepared. We needed this win, especially since we are pushing for the playoffs–It’s a great win for us.”

The Sidekicks will now travel next weekend to Mexico in the team’s double-header versus Chihuahua Savage on Friday, March 11th, and 12th. The Sidekicks return to the Credit Union of Texas Event Center on Thursday, March 24th, 2022, to face Milwaukee Wave.
