Sidekicks Comeback comes up short for New Year’s Eve Game

Mesquite, Texas (December 31, 2022)- The Dallas Sidekicks efforts come up short against the Outlaws in a thrilling New Year’s Eve match.

The first quarter of the game started off slow with both sides failing to find the back of the net from saves by Sidekicks goalkeeper, Juan Gamboa, and Outlaws’ goalkeeper, Eduardo Cortes. Mesquite Outlaws player, Sebastian Mendes, found the net first at the 13:18 minute mark of the game. However, it was soon responded to by a goal from Sidekicks Forward, VcMor Eligwe at the 13:52 minute mark with the assist by Flavio Guzman. The score at the end of the first quarter was 1-1.

The second quarter of the game was like the first quarter with both sides scoring one goal. Outlaws’ player, Jorge Deleon scored first at the 5:44 minute mark. The Sidekicks responded shortly after with a goal by Oscar Romero and an assist by Felipe De Sousa at the 8:15-minute mark. The score going into halftime was 2-2.

The second half of the game was filled with goals on both sides. In the third quarter, Outlaws player, David Ortiz scored at the 2:13-minute mark. 11 seconds later, Sidekicks player, Albert Rodriguez scored a power play goal making it a tie game once again. Four minutes later, Outlaws scored two more goals with goals by Luiz Morales and Jorge Deleon. To end the third quarter, Sidekicks player, Jamie Lovegrove scored a penalty kick at the 11-minute mark. Going into the final quarter of the game, the score was 4-5.

The fourth quarter started off with two goals by the Outlaws which were scored by Brenden Lee and Erik Macias. Guzman scored the next goal at the 4:10 minute mark. Shortly after, Deleon scored his third of the night for the Outlaws. The final two goals of the game were from Jamie Lovegrove and Cameron Brown. However, like the Sidekicks last match against the Outlaws, a Sidekicks comeback came up short. The final score of the game was 7-8.

The Sidekicks have their next game at home on Saturday, January 7th at 7 PM against the San Diego Sockers.
