Sidekicks Corral the Outlaws

Allen, Texas (February 28, 2020)– The Dallas Sidekicks won at home against Mesquite Outlaws 5-4. The Sidekicks next home game is on March 8th, 2020 at 3.00PM CT against the Turlock Cal Express at the Allen Event Center in Allen, TX.

The Sidekicks came out strong and scored when Victor Almendariz hit a banger against Mesquite goalkeeper Eduardo "Pollo" Cortes and brought Dallas up 1-0 minutes into the first quarter. Both teams shared possession through the first half of the quarter with Sidekicks having four shots on goal and Mesquite having three shots on goal. Sidekicks goalkeeper Juan Gamboa continued to make strong saves, but the Outlaws’ Jorge Deleon snuck one past Gamboa to tie the game 1-1. The quarter ended with both sides sitting at one goal apiece.

Dallas came out strong in the second quarter and Luiz Felipe scored and brought the Sidekicks in the lead 2-1 within the first few minutes of the quarter. Sidekicks player Jonathan Segura got called for contact above the shoulders and a blue card was issued. Despite being on the power play, the Outlaws were unable to score. The teams went into the half with the Sidekicks leading 2-1.

The third quarter started with Mesquite’s VcMor Eligwe taking a shot on goal and sinking one in the Sidekicks goal, which tied the game 2-2. The ball possession vacillated between the two teams, with nothing taking off. The quarter ended with the Outlaws outshooting Dallas, but the score remained tied going into the fourth.

Sidekicks got a blue card for tripping and that put the Outlaws on the power play. The Outlaws took advantage of the power play and Jamie Lovegrove scored to bring Mesquite up 3-2. Cortes was given a blue card for tripping and the Sidekicks were awarded a penalty shootout, which Luiz Felipe was unable to capitalize on, but Dallas went on a power play for the blue card. Mesquite Outlaws Cody Ellis was given a blue card for a hand ball which resulted in a penalty kick. Sidekicks Freddy Moojen took the penalty kick and sunk it into the net to tie the game 3-3. Mesquite got a blue card for contact above the shoulders and the Sidekicks went on the power play again. The Sidekicks scored on the power play when RJ Luevano put one past the goalkeeper and brought the Sidekicks up 4-3. The Outlaws put in their sixth attacker to try to make a move with two minutes left in the game. Sidekicks sunk another one into the net when Gustavo Piedra kicked one in from half field to bring the Sidekicks up 5-3. The Outlaws answered back when Bradlee Baladez put one into the net to cut the Sidekicks lead 5-4. The Sidekicks won against their rivals 5-4.
