Sidekicks fall to Milwaukee 9-6 in a thrilling match

by Mahonri Mendoza

ALLEN, TX (March 24, 2022) – On Thursday night, the Dallas Sidekicks fell after losing the match 9-6 against the Milwaukee Wave.

With the MASL Wild Card playoff berth in mind, the first quarter started favorably for the North Texan side as, within the first five minutes of the match, thanks to a goal scored by Cameron Brown, the Sidekicks led 1-0. Following Brown's opening goal, the visiting side tied the game. The Wave scored their second goal of the night a few minutes after. Trailing by two goals, Julio Varela scored the Sidekicks' second goal of the match with 30 seconds left into the first quarter.

The second quarter was fueled by both teams' high intensity brought on to the turf. With a limited number of shots on each side, the visiting side got lucky and snuck a goal past Vazquez to make it 4-2 with eight minutes left in the second quarter. With minutes left, Milwaukee scored their fifth goal of the night going into halftime, leading 5-2.

Within seconds of the start of the third quarter, Sebastian Mendez scored his first goal of the night with a perfect strike to make it 5-3. Mendez again would find his shot, make it past the Wave keeper to make it 5-4, and shorten the visiting side's lead. The Sidekicks had the perfect third quarter, and thanks to Julio Valera, the Sidekicks equalized the score 5-5 with two minutes left in the clock. Milwaukee would go ahead in the score board, but thanks to a beautiful strike by Mendez, the game would be level once again. The Wave scored with two seconds left and would go ahead once again.

The fourth saw just as much action as the previous quarters. Both sides attempted their best to score, but the visiting side successfully found the back of the net for the eighth time in the match. The Wave pushed ahead in their efforts and would score again to lead 9-6.

Following the Sidekicks’ loss, Sebastian Mendez shared his thoughts on the team’s performance:

“Everything happens quickly,” said Mendez, who scored three goals during the match. “We must take our losses as a family and our wins as family. We must be united as we attempt to clinch a playoff spot.”

Following Thursday night's result, The Sidekicks return to the Credit Union of Texas Event Center Saturday, March 26, 2022, as the team will host Ontario Fury on their quest to clinch a playoff berth.
