Sidekicks Sign Midfielder Julio Varela
 for the 2020-2021 season

(ALLEN, TEXAS: September 25, 2020) The Dallas Sidekicks have announced the signing of free agent midfielder Julio Varela to an agreement for the 2020-21 Major Arena Soccer League season. As per team and league policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Varela played for the Turlock Cal Express last year before becoming a free agent at the end of the season. He is the second free agent to be signed by the Dallas Sidekicks for their upcoming season. “When we saw his name on the free agent list, we did not hesitate to make him green” says Sidekicks General Manager Jesse Llamas.

Varela was very impressive in his limited playing time scoring five goals in his six games playing for Turlock. His five goals came on 21 shots for an efficient 23.8% goal per shot ratio. Varela is not just a goal scorer but a true playmaker as he dished out five assists as well. Julio is a very dynamic player who made an immediate impact at Turlock last year.

A California native, Varela also played in the United Soccer League (USL) last year for the Santa Cruz Breakers which limited his MASL action. He was MVP of the Watsonville High School soccer team before moving on to Hartnell College to play soccer and later transferring to study Kinesiology and playing for California State University in Monterey Bay.
