Sidekicks to Face Fury in MASL Playoffs

(ALLEN, TEXAS: March 17, 2021) – The Dallas Sidekicks will face the Ontario Fury in the first round of the 2021 Ron Newman Cup Playoffs in a home-and-home series. Dallas will travel to Ontario California for the first-round game on Wednesday, March 24th before returning to the Allen Event Center on Sunday, March 28th for round two with a 3:00pm local kickoff. The home playoff game will be presented by the North Texas State Soccer Association (NTSSA).

With the MASL top seeded Florida Tropics receiving a first-round bye, the second seeded Fury (10-3) were able to select their first-round opponent and chose Dallas. Whoever wins both games advances to round two of the playoffs. If the series is tied at one win apiece, goal differential will determine which team advances. If needed, a 15-minute mini game will take place approximately 30 minutes after the second game concludes.

Ontario is lead by the most feared scorer in the league in forward Franck Tayou. Tayou has 20 points in nine appearances with 14 goals and six assists. He also leads the MASL with 32 fouls this season. The Fury, however, do not solely rely on Tayou and actually have two players with more points in Juan Carlos Gonzalez with 25 points (11 goals, 14 assists) and Maicon De Abreu with 24 points (14 goals, 10 assists) who rank first and second in the league in points-per-game respectively. All three rank in the top-five of the league in total points this season. Justin Stinson also has double digit goals with ten and former Sidekicks Nestor Hernandez has six goals to go along with three assists.  

The Sidekicks are lead by second-year forward Felipe De Sousa who sits second in the MASL with 17 goals and can overtake the lead with a strong showing this Saturday at the Allen Event Center against the San Diego Sockers.
