Sidekicks win 5-2 against Heat in First Part of Weekend Doubleheader

Harrisburg, PA (March 9, 2024)- The Sidekicks faced the Harrisburg Heat on Saturday night for part one of their weekend doubleheader. Going into the game the Sidekicks and the Heat, both stood at 4 points in their respective conferences.


The first quarter was scoreless until two seconds left in the quarter when Heat player, Robert Williamson scored. Throughout the quarter, the Heat outshot the Sidekicks 6-3 and had many chances, but they hit the goal post. At the end of the first quarter, the Sidekicks were down by one.


Five minutes into the second quarter, Sidekicks player, Gustavo Piedra leveled the score at one. Eight minutes later, Piedra scored again with an assist by Bryan Martinez. Like the first quarter, there was a goal scored at the 14:58 minute mark, but this time by Sidekicks midfielder, Oscar Romero. Jamie Lovegrove assisted the goal. At the end of the second quarter, the Sidekicks were up 3-1.


55 seconds into the third quarter, the Heat ended the Sidekicks goal streak when Roshawn Panton scored. Despite the Heat scoring early, the Sidekicks kept together defensively but did not take advantage and score any additional goals. At the end of the third quarter, the score was 3-2.


A minute into the fourth quarter, Sidekicks defender, Kristian Quintana added his name to the score sheet when he scored. Piedra also had his first assist of the night along with his two goals. A little over halfway through the quarter, the Heat pulled their goalkeeper and activated the sixth attacker. The Heat were not able to take advantage of their extra player and score any more goals. At 14:54, Oscar Romero scored an empty net goal solidifying the three points for the Sidekicks. The Sidekicks won 5-2.


The Sidekicks hope to look for three more points tomorrow night as they face the Heat in part two of their doubleheader this weekend. Kickoff is at 4 PM CST.
