by Mahonri Mendoza

Allen, TX (January 16, 2022) – The Dallas Sidekicks (5-4) won dramatically in a thrilling match against the Milwaukee Wave (1-5-1) that ended 7-6 Sunday afternoon.

The first quarter saw both sides attempting to score, but the visiting side managed to get a shot past Juan Gamboa to open the scoring. The Sidekicks and the Wave both had several chances to score, but in the end, it was Milwaukee who finished the first quarter ahead of the North Texas side.

Halfway through the second quarter, Felipe Silva would level the game, scoring his third goal. A few minutes after the Sidekicks' equalizer, Milwaukee Wave went up ahead on the scoreboard, scoring their second goal of the night. Within the last two minutes of the second quarter, Bradlee Baladez pulled one back for the Sidekicks to make it 3-2, still in favor of the Milwaukee Wave.

Milwaukee increased their lead in the match's opening minutes, but shortly after, Luiz Morales scored for the Sidekicks to bring them back into the match to make it 4-3 still in favor of Milwaukee. Again, the visiting side would increase their lead to make it 5-3 with eight minutes left in the clock.

In less than a minute into the fourth quarter, after a fantastic assist from Luiz Morales, Jamie Lovegrove would put one back for the Sidekicks to make it 5-4. A few minutes later, Milwaukee would again score to make it 6-4. Shortly after the Milwaukee goal, Felipe Silva scored his second of the afternoon to make it 6-5. After a penalty kick, Luiz Morales scored the equalizing goal with a minute left to register his second of the night. Within seconds of Morales' equalizer, Oscar Romero scored the game-winning goal.

Morales finished the match with two goals that helped steer the Sidekicks' win on Sunday afternoon.

"It's indoor," said Morales. "You don't stop playing until the final whistle blows. We had a little talk before coming out. We said, it takes heart, keep fighting until the last whistle, thank God we came out with the win."

Oscar Romero shared his joy after scoring the match-winning goal.

"It's crazy," said Romero. "Most importantly, we came out with the win–that's what mattered, just happy I was at the right place at the right time."

The Sidekicks will go head-to-head against the Florida Tropics in the first of two matches in Florida on Friday, January 21, 2022, at 6:05 pm CST, and on Sunday, January 23, 2022, at 2:05 pm CST.
