MILWAUKEE (January 2, 2022) – The Sidekicks (3-3) defeated in a thrilling match 7-5 against the Milwaukee Wave (0-4) at the UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena Sunday afternoon.

The game on Sunday afternoon was the first of four scheduled matches amongst the two sides this season. The first quarter saw both sides evenly matched as both teams found the back of the net once. Sidekicks' midfielder Oscar Romero opened the match's scoreboard. Things were level quickly after the Wave tied the game seconds after the Sidekicks' opening goal.

The Sidekicks dominated the second quarter with a total of eight shots in favor, which led Luiz Morales and Julio Varela to score a goal apiece. Varela scored his first goal of the season after a fantastic play from the Sidekicks.

The third quarter would be something similar for the Sidekicks scoring three goals and conceding only one to make the score 6-2 at the end of the third quarter. Rio Ramirez scored his first goal of the season, Luiz Morales scored his second goal of the afternoon, and Sebastian Mendez scored his second goal of the season.

The fourth quarter was a bit more challenging for the Sidekicks. In his third consecutive match after his return, Jamie Lovegrove gave the Sidekicks a five-goal lead. Milwaukee would then put the Sidekicks under the ropes as they scored three goals making the score 7-5 in favor of the Sidekicks.

The whole Sidekicks team was exceptional, but Luiz Morales stood out as he helped the team with two goals. Julio Varela and Oscar Romero were also notable for the Sidekicks as they both scored once and provided an assist.

The North Texas side has now clinched three wins in a row since calling up Ricardinho as Interim head coach. Since his appointment, the team, aided by former players, added experience and depth to the squad.

The Sidekicks return to the Credit Union of Texas Event Center on Saturday, January 8, 2022, against the Central Division leaders Kansas City Comets (5-0), celebrating First Responders Night at 7:00 pm CST.
