Allen, TX (December 22, 2019)– The Dallas Sidekicks won at home against the Kansas City Comets. The Sidekicks used the force and brought a 5-2 win for the Sidekicks fans! The Sidekicks next game will be at home against the Mesquite Outlaws on December 26th, 2019 at 7.30 PM CT in Allen, TX at the Allen Event Center.

Sidekicks goalkeeper Juan Gamboa Yoda started in goal for the Kicks and this was his 100th career game. The Sidekicks kept possession of the ball for the majority of the first half of the quarter. Gamboa continued to make saves left and right, with the aid of his hidden lightsaber, to keep the Comets off the score board. The quarter ended with neither team “using the force” and no points up on the board.

The second quarter started with both teams tied 0-0. Sidekicks forward Cameron Brown Skywalker put the ball into the net after Kristian Quintana placed it perfectly for Brown and that brought the Sidekicks up 1-0 at 12.50 left in the quarter. It wasn’t long before the Sidekicks scored another one, this time by Arthur Ivo assisted by Felipe De Sousa which brought the Sidekicks up 2-0. With 1:14 left in the half, the Comets Adam James landed one into the net and brought the score to 2-1 in the Sidekicks favor. There was a delay of game due to multiple yellow cards by Comets’ players Kiel Williams and Ignacio Flores. The Sidekicks goal by RJ Luevano was also deemed invalid and the Sidekicks received a set piece but couldn’t get another point before halftime.

The Dark Side came out swinging at the beginning of the quarter, but Gamboa kept the shots from turning into goals. At 12:50 the Comets goalkeeper Mark Saxby was out of position and Sidekicks Cameron Brown scored his second of the night to bring the Sidekicks up 3-1. Comets’ Ryan Palmer fouled against De Sousa which gave the Sidekicks a set piece in which they didn’t capitalize. The Comets then went on spree of shots and Gamboa saved multiple shots in a row before Sidekicks player Billy O’Dwyer cleared the ball. The quarter ended with the Sidekicks still up 3-1.

The Sidekicks traditional balloon pop signaled the fourth quarter. At 11:56 the Comets head coach, who is also a field player, scored one against Gamboa and brought the Comets to within one of the Sidekicks at 3-2. Sidekicks player and part-time Jedi, Gustavo Piedra caught Saxby off guard and put one into the net from midfield to bring the Sidekicks lead up 4-2. At 4:48 the Comets put in their sixth attacker to take advantage of the extra man. Quintana got his first of the night which was a header and he was assisted by Josh Hernandez to bring the Sidekicks up 5-2 and the game ended with the Sidekicks vanquishing the Dark Side.
