The Sidekicks outperformed the Comets to a 7-3 victory

Kansas City, MO (March 20, 2022) – The Dallas Sidekicks overcame in a fashionable 7-3 win against the Kansas City Comets Sunday evening.

In the opening minutes of the quarter, Julio Varela attempted a shot from outside the box–taking a small deflection, the ball made its way to the back of the net. Following Varela's goal, Sebastian Mendez would also have an attempt from the same distance and would score the Sidekicks' second goal. After going down two players, the Sidekicks put on a fantastic defensive performance to deny a 5-man Comets to get on the scoresheet. Cameron Brown attempted a shot from distance that would bounce off the backboard for Jamie Lovegrove to pick up and score with one second left in the clock to make it 3-0 at the end of the first quarter.

The second quarter saw a more dominant Kansas City side outshooting the Sidekicks 7-1 before scoring their first goal with five minutes left in the clock to make it 3-1. The Sidekicks attempted to go forward and score a late goal that would return some comfort for the team going into halftime. Unfortunately, the North Texas side could not take advantage to put away those chances created.

The Comets pulled back one goal to shorten the Sidekicks' lead within the first seconds of the third quarter. In a matter of minutes, the Comets scored the equalizer goal with 10 minutes left in the quarter. Both teams were evenly matched throughout the third quarter. Both sides attempted to score, but the Comets came on top with those two early goals.

After a few minutes of playing time, Jamie Lovegrove scored his second goal of the match, giving the Sidekicks the 4-3 lead. Brenden Lee scored from his six-yard box with the net wide open to give the Sidekicks a two-goal lead to make it 5-3 with three minutes left in the last quarter. Again, Mike Jones followed on a long toe-poke shot from David Ortiz with an empty net to make it 6-3. For the third time in the match, again with an empty net, David Ortiz scored the match's seventh and final Sidekicks goal.

Following the Sidekicks 7-3 win, Jamie Lovegrove gave his thoughts on the team's performance:

“It’s a massive day for us,” said Lovegrove. “We put in a great performance today–nobody expected us to come out here and win so we took that as motivation and came out with the win. We are wanting to take this momentum to push hard and make our way into the playoffs.”

Following Sunday's dominating display, the North Texas side will prepare for Thursday, March 24 at 7:00 p.m. CST when the team hosts Milwaukee Wave before their final home match of the regular season against Ontario Fury on Saturday, March 26 at 7:00 p.m. CST
