Tj nelson Looks ahead

(ALLEN, TEXAS: May 9, 2020) With some torn cartilage in his right knee, veteran defender TJ Nelson had to watch from the sidelines for most of the 2019-2020 season but he’s ready to start his 5th season with the Dallas Sidekicks in a few short months.

His injury has affected his play time for the past two seasons but now a year after getting surgery, he’s hopeful that he’ll be back on the field with his teammates.

“I’ve talked to my doctor and I’ve been to a couple physical therapists and they say that I just need to focus on form right now. They’re predicting that next season should be ok,” said Nelson.  “I’m predicting playing next season no matter what. I’m good enough to play right now but I wouldn’t be able to play exactly how I would want to play.”

Now that he’s moving forward, he’s been thinking about what’s to come in the next season and how he and his teammates can improve.

He emphasized that importance of having a good mentality and going the extra mile.

“I don’t want to say that we’re not cohesive, but I think that if we shift our mentality a little bit to be even more cohesive, to be willing to make that extra sprint to get back or to do the little extra things to help out, it’ll help,” Nelson said.

With the plan of being able to play next season, Nelson will have to get back into his typical routine.

During the season, Nelson said that he normally watches games around the league to get a recap, but his game-day routine is very relaxed.

“I’m usually just goofing around and listening to music, stretching, walking the field, all that good stuff,” said Nelson, “I like to have fun. That’s just me.”

As he considers his personal and team goals, Nelson hopes to have a winning season and to make the playoffs. As for himself, he wants to be back and consistently play for the team.

“I just really want to get back out there on the regular, regular games, regular minutes,” said Nelson. “I want to get back to myself.”
