Turlock Walks Away with a Win Against Dallas

Allen, Texas (March 8, 2020)– The Dallas Sidekicks lost at home against the Turlock Cal Express 8-7. The Sidekicks next game is on the road on March 14th, 2020 at 6.00PM CT against Utica City FC at the Adirondack Bank Center in Utica, NY.

The Sidekicks started the game strong by scoring the first goal when Luiz Felipe put one into the net past Turlock’s Sanaldo Carvalho to take the lead 1-0. Then Turlock answered back when Mathew Germain tied up the game 1-1. The possession went back and forth throughout the first quarter and with less than four minutes left, Dallas’ Freddy Moojen scored on his own rebound to take the Sidekicks up 2-1. Then with less than two minutes left in the quarter Dallas put another point onto the scoreboard when Andy Ordoñez assisted Moojen in a beautiful goal to bring the Sidekicks up by two to make it 3-1.

The second quarter started with Dallas’ goalkeeper Juan Gamboa showing his veteran strength and contributing in goal and on the field. This helped the Sidekicks put another one into the goal when Felipe De Sousa put one in from an assist by Chris Sendejas and the Sidekick went up 4-1 early in the second. The Sidekicks defense held their ground and continued to pressure Turlock and block shots. Turlock received a blue card for tripping and the Sidekicks went on the power play. Moojen got a power play goal to take the Sidekicks up 5-1 and then Luiz Felipe put one into the net at full strength and Dallas went up 6-1. With seconds left in the half, Turlock’s Adrian Gutierrez put one into the net and cut Dallas’ lead 6-2.

Both sides came out of the locker room with a flurry of shots on goal, but four minutes into the quarter and neither team put one into the net. There was a lot of ball movement between both teams and a total of seven shots on goal with less than five minutes left in the quarter, but no change in the score. The Sidekicks were shown a blue card and Turlock went on the power play and Turlock’s Adrian Gutierrez brought Turlock up 6-3. Dallas was out of position which allowed Turlock to put another point on the board and cut the Sidekicks’ lead 6-4 with under four minutes left in the quarter. The clock wound down one minute, and Turlock’s Anibal Echeverria put one into the net to make it a one-point game with the Sidekicks in the lead 6-5.

The fourth quarter started with Gamboa making his traditional epic saves. Turlock received a blue card and Dallas went on a two-minute power play. The Sidekicks quickly capitalized on the advantage and Moojen got his fourth goal of the game and brought the Sidekicks up 7-5. With less than six minutes left in the game, Turlock put in a sixth attacker and pulled their goalkeeper and the Cal Express put one into the net and cut the Sidekicks lead 7-6 with less than three minutes left in the game. Turlock kept in their sixth attacker to try to utilize the advantage. Sidekicks defender Kristian Quintana blocked a hard shot, but the Cal Express switched it up and put one into the net to tie the game 7-7 with a little more than one-minute left in the game. Turlock put their keeeper back into the next and pulled their sixth attacker. Turlock’s Mathew Germain scored and brought them into the lead 8-7 for the first time in the game. After a timeout, the Sidekicks put in RJ Luevano as the sixth attacker and time expired with Turlock taking home the win with a final score of 8-7.
